Through our leadership development program, Muslim women are cultivating a sisterhood and a network of leaders.

Leadership Development

RISE is educating and empowering our sisters to take on positions of power while building networks of Muslim women in leadership. Equipped with the skills they need and the support from their sisters, Muslim women are navigating systems and institutions, challenging the status quo, and fighting for racial equity, social justice, and gender inclusion.

Current Projects:

Restorative Healing Circle Series:

RISE, SNAP, and Sukoon partnered with clinical psychologist Dr. Abyan Bashir from Let’s Talk Healing on a five-session series about self-care and self-healing practices. In this series, Muslim women learned the different domains of self-care, discussed their implications on our mental health and overall well-being, and applied these lessons to their own lives and healing journeys.

Halal Home Buying:

In this seminar, we brought in real estate expert Dilek Hanedar to teach our sisters how to establish their credit score, what is needed to get pre-approved for buying a home, what the process of halal home buying is, what the current market looks like, the difference between halal and normal lenders, and more.

Mocktails with the Sisterhood:

Mocktails is an annual networking event meant to bring Muslim women and community members together to socialize over mocktails! This year, we brought in Yasmine from Minneapolis Mocktails to serve specialty drinks and refreshments.

Self-Defense Workshops:

We believe that every woman should be equipped with the skills to protect herself in dangerous situations, especially visibly Muslim women who may be targeted with harassment and hate crimes. RISE will be partnering with a self-defense coach to share lessons with our sisterhood on how to best protect ourselves when necessary.

We are a source of power, strength, and sisterhood for Muslim women leaders.

Community Trainings: Available by Request

We know that sexual violence and anti-Blackness are realities in the lives of Muslim women and other marginalized community members. To address these oppressive systems, RISE offers trainings to the community by request. We bring in local Muslim women who are experts, educators, and dedicated advocates to equip attendees with the confidence, capacity, and power to show up for social change.

Combating Sexual Violence Trainings:

Reviving Sisterhood offers trainings to build awareness of sexual violence, spur dialogue, and share tools for supporting survivors. We aim to provide language, resources, and other tools to help our community address sexual violence, beginning with naming and identifying it as a problem. Trainings are led by Asma Nizami.

Challenging Anti-Blackness Trainings:

By following the Prophetic model, we are rooted in the Sunnah and reminded of the diversity of identities and how we show up. These workshops provide language, examples, tools, techniques and most importantly sisterhood in order to change a system. Trainings are led by sister Valerie Shirley.

Muslim Women’s Leadership Conference

The annual Muslim Women’s Leadership Conference brings together Muslim women leaders, activists, professionals, scholars, and philanthropists who are making a positive impact in their communities. We showcase their work while building social networks, providing concrete steps for change, and inspiring women to use their strengths in order to affect social issues. Interactive and inspirational workshops build leadership skills such as planning and mobilizing for change, sharing our personal narratives, practicing self-care, and more.
